🧭 Great Explorers (Ages 8–11

For our bright young adventurers, this month is all about history’s boldest trailblazers. From sailing into the unknown to trekking across uncharted continents, the Great Explorers unit follows the thrilling paths of famous figures like David Livingstone, Lewis and Clark, Christopher Columbus, and more.

Your kids will:

  • Discover why people risked everything to explore the world

  • Follow daring journeys to the North and South Poles

  • Learn about narwhals, Humboldt squid, and other fascinating “Creature Features”

  • Watch epic stories like the Endurance Expedition and the Race to the Pole unfold

The series wraps up with a big-picture look at what exploration means today—and how curiosity still drives discovery in our world.

🇿🇦 South Africa (Ages 12–18)

For our older learners, the South Africa unit dives deep into the history, people, and powerful moments that have shaped one of Africa’s most influential nations. This unit doesn’t shy away from tough topics—but it’s also full of hope, resilience, and meaningful connections.

Students will explore:

  • The tribal roots of the Xhosa and Zulu

  • Leaders like Nelson Mandela and their impact on modern history

  • The rise and fall of apartheid, colonialism, and the Scramble for Africa

  • Topics like slavery, diamonds, and the role of Africa in the World Wars

They’ll also examine South Africa’s unique geography, ancient empires, and how historical decisions still affect people today. It’s a powerful unit designed to foster both understanding and empathy.

Let’s Get Hands-On!

Both topics this month come with hands-on activities that bring history to life!

Younger learners can 3D print the Endeavour (Captain Cook’s ship), fold their own origami dragon, or create a giraffe to go along with our creature features.

Older students can print a topographical map of South Africa, try their hand at an origami elephant and djembe, or even model the physical layout of the region for a deeper understanding.

All the links and printables are included inside the course materials—no extra hunting required!

If your family creates something fun, don’t forget to send a photo to [email protected]—we love seeing what you come up with!
